Second only to my love of chocolate is my love of sleep. I am so blessed to be a good sleeper; I fall asleep in an instant and usually stay asleep throughout the night. There is one vital element I need for a restful evening- complete and utter darkness. No night-lights, no bright digital alarm clocks, no tiny cracks of light under my door. The smoke detector in my room started its low battery chirping recently and after taking it down I realized I didn’t miss its tiny green light so it has been banished to a kitchen drawer...I know, I may need to seek counseling.
Several nights ago I was awakened by light streaming through my blinds. It was about 2 o’clock in the morning, so I was confused as to why it was so bright in my bedroom. This light was so unusual that I got out of bed and lifted the blinds to see where it could be coming from. The townhouses behind me didn’t have their floodlights on, so I went down the stairs and checked to see if it was my own back lights that were shining so brightly. I opened the door, stepped onto the deck and discovered the luminous culprit. It was the moon. A beautiful, bright and very full moon in the blackest night sky.
That night the moon, which has no light of its own, was completely fulfilling its purpose. It was reflecting the sun in all its power. Its brightness had awakened me and made me curious enough to investigate the strange source of light that was interrupting my comfortable darkness.
Oh, how I long to learn the lessons of that moon.
I want to reflect the light of the SON. I want my inner glow, my joy of the Lord, to be so unusual that it makes those around me want to investigate the source. I want to be willing to shine in the darkest of places, any orbit of influence where God has placed me.
Anyone want to shine with me? Let's make it our goal to touch the lost around us, no matter what brand of “Son-block” they have covered themselves with!
Pray with me:
Lord, I have no light of my own, but I can reflect Your light into the darkness all around me. Help me to shine brightest to those who have built barriers (Son-Block) to your love and invitation. Like the moon, I want to fulfill my purpose which is to know you and make you known. Give me patience, perseverance and a humble, grace-filled heart. AMEN.
Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
