For over 20 years I have been the recipient of a miracle.

Two decades spent commuting on 270 and only one of those chain reaction, rear-ending pileups. And no, I didn’t cause it.

There have been some scares along the way, some irritations at other drivers and some crankiness at sitting in traffic but overall I have been alright with my commute. Last week, however, I had my most terrifying 270 experience.

It was that snowy morning which prompted a 2 hour school delay but wasn’t really bad enough to keep the rest of us from heading to work on time. I scraped the snow from my car, defrosted the windows and took off. It wasn’t long after getting on 270 that I realized I had missed a major snow-day equipment check. My little window washing squirters, which I am sure have a much more sophisticated name, were frozen over. The crews had been out working on the roads, and salt and spray started coating my windshield. I hit the washer button and nothing; it actually made the situation worse. Now that salt and spray were just smeared across the windshield and I was traveling at about 50 miles an hour peering through a cloudy windshield. Every few minutes I would think, OK the engine is warmer and maybe the washers will work now. I would hit the button and SMEAR. My shoulders started tensing and rising up to my ears, I had a death grip on the steering wheel and I prayed. Oh how I prayed. I finally just decided to find the clearest spot on the windshield, crane my neck to see through it and follow the lights of the truck in front of me until I got off the highway.

Life is like this sometimes, isn’t it? We are traveling along and suddenly we are blinded. Blinded by grief, illness, job loss, wayward children. The list of what can cause our vision to falter is endless in this fallen world. Our shoulders tense, our knuckles whiten and we just hang on for dear life and pray. And pray. The journey sometimes seems endless.

But there is hope. There is ONE who is traveling before us. He has been this way before. We have to fix our eyes on Him, no matter how dimly we can see Him and just follow. Knowing, deep in our souls KNOWING, He will lead us safely home. ~Cyndi Word

1 Corinthians 13:12  Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.  (New Living translation)

Prayer: Father, we need you. We need your comfort, your peace and most of all your presence in our lives. Thank you for your trustworthiness because we know in your love for us, you will lead us until we are safely home with you. Amen.
